Darrell and I got to take part in a benefit concert for the lovely Lopez family on Sunday past. It was such a wonderful night, meeting lots of new people and worshiping God together.
The night opened with the Emmanuel Rockers, a youth band from Durham. I’m not 100% sure, but it sounded like they did a version of Delirious’ Happy Song in Spanish. Hadn’t heard that song in years. I had not heard it in Spanish – ever.
Darrell and I were up next. We sang Let Your Kingdom Come (a song I recently finished) and then Matt Redman’s 10,000 Reasons which had everyone singing along.
We had spoken word from Wisdom Pharaoh. One day I want to have this lady work in some spoken word into a worship service with me. It was powerful.
Chris Farrer was not only drumming for the M.O.B. band, but performing some mime. This dude has stamina, that’s for sure.
Reynolds Chapman, also a member of M.O.B and a local worship leader, sang one of his own originals and then teamed up with Brian Bryant to sing another couple of songs.
The M.O.B. band (Menders of the Breach) ended the night with great music and harmonies. Amazing.
One of the most wonderful things about the night was the diversity represented in the room, people of different race, different cultures, different church backgrounds and different musical styles – all who love to worship Jesus. I’m so glad to have shared in it.
Hey everyone, I’m taking part in a benefit concert for the Lopez family on March 3rd, 2013 in Durham Presbyterian Church (2504 N Roxboro St, Durham, NC) at 6pm-8pm.
As you know, the Lopez’s recently managed to raise $35,000 in little over a week to allow their visa application to continue. This in of itself is a miracle! Now as they wait for the visa to be processed, the Lopez’s have basic monthly expenses that will need to be covered (such as rent, food, utilities, etc).
On March 3rd, I will be joining a number of other performers each contributing 2-3 songs each throughout the evening. It’s completely free to attend the concert but an offering will be lifted that will go towards the Lopez family expenses.
Even if you can’t attend the event, please consider sharing this information with your friends on Facebook or other social media sites.
