How do You replenish after a workout?

Athletes have so many options these days when it comes to “sports drinks” designed to replace electrolytes. What attracted me to Ultima Replenisher was the fact their formula contains zero carbs, zero sugar and zero artificial ingredients.

What are electrolytes?

The word “electrolyte” is derived from words meaning “carry” and “energy”. Electrolytes are minerals found in the healthiest foods we can eat, such as fruit and vegetables. The main electrolytes include the macro-essential electrolytes: calcium, chloride, magnesium, potassium and sodium, and the micro-essential electrolytes: selenium, zinc and phosphorus. These minerals, when used in proper ratios, can be utilized by the body systems to control blood flow and oxygen utilization, which thus keeps our cells healthy and our muscles strong and loose. Ultima’s formula focuses on providing all of the electrolytes in correct and useable ratios. Hydration depends on electrolytes and the best way to stay hydrated is to make certain you get electrolytes.

I received a variety pack of Ultima Replenisher (new formula), which contains 5 different flavors (raspberry, lemonade, grape, orange and cherry pomegranate). I also received a container (good for 30 servings) of Cherry Pomegranate, which is probably my favorite flavor.

The formula is designed to replace your body with electrolytes and other minerals after a workout. It is certified Vegan, Autism Approved, Paleo Friendly, Keto Friendly, Gluten-Free and made with Non-GMO ingredients.

It contains zero sugars but is sweetened by Stevia, which is an intensely sweet ingredient extract from the leaves of a plant grown and used in Latin America for centuries. It is now found in many drinks in many different categories, but Ultima Replenisher use only the water-extracted leaf extract rebaudioside A.

One of the reasons they removed carbs from the formula is to increase absorption rate of the electrolytes into our bodies (carb intake actually slows down that process). The bonus of this is that the formula is keto friendly, or good for those following a low-carb diet.

It’s also great for those runners who like to manage their fueling options separate from hydration. Since your body will not be focusing on digestion, this formula may also be a great hydration option during activity.

I tested it by mixing the drink with water after my runs. I found that mixing in a bottle was better (and quicker) than mixing in a glass. I also liked using the container as I could make the mix a little stronger at times.


I do love how Ultima Replenisher share lots of great recipe ideas on their blog. I’ll definitely be making some Coconut Creamsicles and Lemonade and Ginger tea in the coming weeks.
