This Week’s Sources of Learning – 28 Feb 2014

Here are a selection of podcasts, blog posts and books that I’ve been learning from this week. You can view all of these weekly posts here.

I’m always looking for fresh podcasts/books/music, so if there’s any that you particularly enjoy, let me know.

Podcasts

I’ve been enjoying the recent series’ from Elevation Church (particularly the series before this one). In Part 3 of Crash the Chatterbox, It Will Happen pastor Steven Furtick talks about what happens if our worst scenarios actually play out.

I also listened to the Jesus Culture Leadership Podcast, titled Leading For Transformation: Part 1.

Books

notrockstarsI listened to Jefferson Bethke at the recent Velocity conference and liked what he had to say. So I bought and started to read his book Jesus > Religion: Why He Is So Much Better Than Trying Harder, Doing More, and Being Good Enough. So far it’s awesome.

This week I completed Stephen Miller’s book, Worship Leaders: We Are Not Rock Stars. It’s a good reminder of why we do want we do. I recommend it to anyone involved in music ministry at church – a great motive check.

I’m still working my way through The Emotionally Healthy Church by Peter Scazzero. It’s a little bit of a heavier read for me hence I’m dragging my feet a little. However, I’m learning a lot from this one.

Last Wednesday night I started a 7 week course that will walk us through Tony Morgan’s book, Simply Strategic Volunteers: Empowering People for Ministry.  That got off to a good start, and I’m looking forward to the next session.
