Sunday was the best Baptism service ever! In fact, it was easily one of the best STORYCHURCH services ever!
From where I was standing I could see people totally transfixed and listening intently to those sharing their stories of life-change before they stepped into the water and were completely soaked. It was powerful and emotional. It was impactful. It was a defining moment for participant and witness alike.
I’m super proud of my oldest son Nathan who was baptized yesterday. When it comes to our children and their relationship with Jesus, we are not pushy parents. In the home we strive to be Godly role models and gently guide our kids, conscious that we want every spiritual decision to be their own and not ours.
We talked with our kids about baptism (see Liz’s post about it here) and they mulled it over in their heads for a few weeks. At first none of them believed they were ready for such a serious step (which we totally respected). Just last week, Nathan changed his mind and decided he was going to take the plunge and get baptized.
I have to say, the band (Brandon, Andrew, Tammy, Dillon and Darrell) really nailed it yesterday too. Those guys brought it. We had to go off the plan (i.e. our plan) yesterday to be able to weave in and out of the baptisms and in the end it flowed so seamlessly.
Darrell singing and playing on Washed By The Water was excellent – a song he brought to my attention a few weeks back. Of course the problem with coming up with a good idea, is that you might actually be asked to execute it yourself, and Darrell took the challenge and delivered effortlessly. Good man yer da!
I loved what Tammy had prepared and added vocally to Washed By The Water.
The rest of the song set was pretty much improvised and Andrew did a stellar job following along and adding his guitar tones were needed. Nothing over the top, but dead-on complimentary with what was happening.
Brandon had his finger on the pulse yesterday too – seriously. Every time someone was coming up out of the water, he was bringing up the energy on the drums as we launched into another chorus of God Of The Redeemed.
It always good to have Dillon on bass. That dude rocks it. The way he moves on stage nearly makes me want to dance too and that’s saying something.
- Happy Day – Tim Hughes (B)
- God Is Able – Hillsong (B)
- Washed By The Water – NeedToBreathe (B)

Props to Randall for keeping up with the song slides and Josh for doing a great job on sound.
