Get Me The Muck Outta Here!

Stuck in the Mud

I can’t think of better words to describe how I feel lately, except for my heart is heavy. It’s heavy, because quite a few people that I care about are wading through some muck right now.  It hurts me just listening to what they are going through, so (only) God knows how it must be hurting them.

Today I could not help thinking of Psalm 40, and how God is able to lift us out from our mess.  I hope these words are an encouragement to anyone going through difficult times.

Is there a particular verse or song, or something else entirely, that has helped you through a rough time? I encourage you to share in the comments.

1waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
2 He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
making my steps secure.

Whatever we’re going through, we need to keep trusting in God and we will come out the other side – not only on secure footing, but with fresh praises for who He is and what He has done.

3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.

God has our backs.  There’s nothing anyone can do or say that will change how God feels about us.  We are His and all He wants is our attention, our trust and our love.

13 Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me!
O Lord, make haste to help me!
14 Let those be put to shame and disappointed altogether
who seek to snatch away my life;
let those be turned back and brought to dishonor
who delight in my hurt!
15 Let those be appalled because of their shame
who say to me, “Aha, Aha!”

God is our deliverer!  He is always looking out for us in more ways than can be told (see Psalm 40:5).

16 But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who love your salvation
say continually, “Great is the Lord!”
17 As for me, I am poor and needy,
but the Lord takes thought for me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
do not delay, O my God!

It might feel sometimes that the devil is winning.  He is not winning.  Christ has already won the victory.  The devil needs reminded of that sometimes.  We need to be reminded of that sometimes.

God is great.  He is in control.  His timing is perfect.
