It’s Time For Change. I’m Converting.

I never thought it would come to this, but I’m converting.

People have been telling me for years how great it will be.

They tell me if I follow I will never look back.

Still I wonder if it will live up to all the hype.

I wonder if I will miss the path I was on before.

I guess only time will tell the story.

Because I’m jumping in with both feet.

Pretty soon I will be a mac user.

Tell me your must have apps here…

  2. You probably won’t miss Windows too much. I know I don’t. I rarely if ever boot to it anymore. If only I could find a music manager as easy to use as Media Player. And don’t say iTunes, because that might just be the worst program ever written on any platform.

At first I was booting to windows to use Outlook, but since I’ve gone to gmail exclusively, I don’t even do that anymore. The only reason I even keep it around anymore is because Office is the best productivity suite out there. But you can run that on your Mac.

I won’t miss Office or Outlook. Don’t use them. My main concern is missing Sony Vegas. Also, connectivity for devices such as my camcorder, etc.

Can’t believe you finally made the switch this is the best news!!!

Here are some apps that I use on a regular basis

    Xcode
    Aperture (iPhoto on steroids.)
    Photoshop Elements 9
    Premiere Elements 9
    Transmit (great FTP client)
Chronosync (keeps multiple hdd’s in sync)
Echofon (best Mac twitter client I can find)
Facetime (beta download from Apple, call your iPhone – any me!!!)
Handbrake – because you absolutely will not be ripping your DVD’s to your Mac πŸ˜‰
    iSale (ebay listings)
OminiFocus (task manager – actually look at any of the products from Omni – all good)
    Path Finder (Finder replacement)
    Ripit
    Sequel Pro (mySQL editor)
    Toast
    VLC
    1Password – essential
    Dropbox – essential
    Moneywell – finance manager
NetNewsWire – probably the best RSS reader currently
RemoteTap – access your Mac via your iPhone

These are just a few that I can think of that I use.

Cheers Neil. Thanks – great list.

What does Aperture do on top of iPhoto. I read your tweets complaining about iPhoto 11.

I use 1Password on my iPhone already.

I’ll need to look some of those others up to see what they do. Didn’t iChat already have video? Why is facetime better? Is it simply interaction with iphone 4 users?

Apple have quite a good page on iPhoto vs Aperture

        http://www.apple.com/aperture/iphoto-to-aperture/

I love the non-destructive editing, it’s much faster with large libraries and the editing / retouch tools are much better

You may find iPhoto covers all your needs, I certainly wouldn’t rule it out, it’s fine for the vast majority of users

iChat does video but not to Facetime devices. It wouldn’t surprise me to see iChat disappear in 10.7 to be replaced by Facetime with some added im features

I’d love Final Cut…. gotta see what iMovie does for me first. It might be enough.
Yeah, Neil mentions OMNI group being real good. Will check them out.
      Thanks Chad!
