Remember Back When: I’ve got that Joy Joy Joy Joy…

sundayschoolI downloaded the free (limited time) Hymns album from Page CXVI at the weekend and started to listen to it this morning.  The album is really good and you grab it while it’s still available.

The song Joy starts with a rendition of an old classic Sunday school song I used to sing as a kid.  I twittered the first line of it this morning and very soon started to get people responding with Where? both on Twitter and facebook!

And so we continued through the verse…. but we soon found out that after the chorus we knew different verses.  I’m interested to hear what lyrics YOU used to sing (or still do!) for this song.

Fill out the comments with what I have missed!

I’ve got that Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy
Down in my heart (Where?)
Down in my heart (Where?)
Down in my heart
I’ve got that Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy
Down in my heart
Down in my heart to stay

And I’m so happy
So very happy
I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart
(repeat)

I’ve got that peace that passes understanding
Down in my heart (Where?)
Down in my heart (Where?)
Down in my heart
I’ve got that peace that passes understanding
Down in my heart
Down in my heart to stay

I’ve got that Nicodemus new-born feeling
Down in my heart (Where?)
Down in my heart (Where?)
Down in my heart
I’ve got that Nicodemus new-born feeling
Down in my heart
Down in my heart to stay

(this last verse was my favourite!)

I’ve got that don’t-know-what-you-call-it-but-the-devil-doesn’t-like-it
Down in my heart (Where?)
Down in my heart (Where?)
Down in my heart
I’ve got that don’t-know-what-you-call-it-but-the-devil-doesn’t-like-it
Down in my heart
Down in my heart to stay

  1. Our fave (Methodist church in rural Australia) was…

I’ve got the wonderful love of my blessed Redeemer
way down in the depths of my heart…(where?)
down in the depths of my heart…(where?)
down in the depths of my heart…(where?)
I’ve got the wonderful love of my blessed Redeemer
way down in the depths of my heart
Down in the depths of my heart to stay

It was the last verse we did, and was at an impossibly fast speed by this point with every possibly syllable space taken up.

Too much fun…pity I was sleeping when you were all having with it on Twitter. But a great blog post has come out of it.

  2. @machroi found a good verse too which I was not aware of but she obviously could not be bothered commenting herself… 😉

And if the Devil doesn’t like it he can sit on a tack.
    OUCH
    Sit on a tack.
    OUCH
    Sit on a tack.
And if the Devil doesn’t like it he can sit on a tack
    Sit on a tack today.

    And here’s another

I’ve the got love of Jesus, love of Jesus
    Down in my heart,
    Where? Down in my heart!
    Where? Down in my heart!
I’ve the got love of Jesus, love of Jesus
    down in my heart,
down in my heart to stay.

    And one more

I’ve got the love for all people down in my heart
    Where? Down in my heart
    Where? Down in my heart
I’ve got the love for all people down in my heart
Down in my heart to stay.

    Cough cough! I saw that!

Like I said- I didn’t know the tack verse, so it must be an American add-on that didn’t quite reach our hallowed Northern Irish shores.

We sang it minus the Nicodemus verse, but plus the “wonderful love” hyperspeed one.

See? I DO respond to blogs, really! And you got a response from my husband – one flesh an’ all that…:-)

Here’s my favorite…. and I am from Ohio, so keep that in mind:
I’ve got the faith that freaks out far-out farmers down in my heart
    down in my heart
    down in my heart
I’ve got the faith that freaks out far-out farmers down in my heart
down in my heart to stay

I’ve got the love of all the living ‘cos the God of all the loving’s living
Down in my heart, down in my heart, down in my heart…
        and
I’ve got that don’t-know-what-you-call-it-but-the-devil-doesn’t-like-it, down in my heart…
        and
I’ve got that Nicodemus new-born feeling, down in my heart
