Glory In The Highest – A Christmas Tour

decconcert

Liz and I went to Raleigh last night to see Phil Wickham, Shane & Shane and Bethany Dillon in concert.  I didn’t know much about Shane & Shane or Bethany Dillon – except for a few YouTube clips I’d watched in the past.

Bethany started the night with the old song ‘I love you Lord‘ and then followed with a few of her own songs.  It was great to hear the story behind each of them.  She was open and humble and often humorous with her introductions.  It was a brilliant start to the night.

Next up was Phil and he got the crowd up on their feet and singing along with Messiah, Divine Romance, Cannons (and others I can’t recall) interpersed with classic hymns.  We were doing Church.  Everyone had gathered together to worship Jesus.  It was refreshing.

After Phil had finished, Shane & Shane got up to share about World Vision and the difference you can make in a child’s life. These two guys are very funny – even when presenting something as serious as the World Vision charity.  We then had a short break to give us an opportunity to view and hopefully commit to supporting a child in need.

After the break Shane & Shane came on and played for the remainder of the night.  My favourite tune of the night from them has to be Psalm 13.  The crowd seemed to be able to sing with all the songs – I have a lot of catching up to do.  Another song that I loved was their version of ‘Before The Throne Of God Above‘ which includes a chorus they have written into the hymn.

Since it is a Christmas tour, the night had a number of Christmas carols thrown in too.

It was a great night and Liz and I really enjoyed it – definitely a ‘better than the CD‘ experience.  I left the concert inspired and encouraged.  I was impressed by their (Phil, the two Shanes, and Bethany) humility and heart for God and the way they have applied their talents for His glory.  I pray that God continues to bless them.

I was tempted to hang about and meet Phil afterwards – but I chickened out.  I messaged Brody to see if he was there, but no, he was at home trying to watch it online!
