Desperate For Jesus – Story Church Set List – 29 Aug 2010

  • Happy Day – Tim Hughes
  • Everlasting God – Lincoln  Brewster
  • For Who You Are – Marty Sampson
  • Came To My Rescue – Hillsong
  • Hungry – Kathryn Scott

WOW! This morning was what doing church is all about.  Jeremy preached on being desperate for Jesus – and how God can move in times of desperation.  The message spoke to a lot of people.  You could feel it.  God was moving and changing lives.  That’s what it’s all about.

I cry out, God, call out:
‘You’re my last chance, my only hope for life!’
Oh listen, please listen;
I’ve never been this low.
Rescue me from those who are hunting me down;
I’m no match for them.
Get me out of this dungeon
so I can thank you in public.
Your people will form a circle around me
and you’ll bring me showers of blessing!
— Psalm 142

On a side note, I do need to learn how to pronounce ”Psalms” the American way.  It will save so much confusion if I’m ever quoting from there.  In the UK we say “sams”, while US folk seem to say “sommes”. This morning was the first time I noticed it was so different.

I felt a lot of freedom this morning in worship.  I hadn’t used For Who You Are for a long time, but it fitted in great this morning.  It’s a simple song that people can sing along to without too much dependence on the lyrics.

Came To My Rescue is just fantastic.  Those who read these set lists regularly already know how much I love that song right now.

I selected Hungry to fit with today’s message theme.  Also because it was fresh on my mind after hearing it on Kathryn Scott’s latest album.

    It’s just you guys in Norn Iron that pronounce it Sams. In England we pronounce it ‘Salms’. The ‘l’ is not silent. Sorry sweetie.

    It’s definitely pronounced “Salms”, but I may start saying “Sams”, so I can sound more Irish.

      Do that. I feel kind of out on my own with this one. My wife doesn’t even have my back.
