Hey, I’ve got a free ticket to give away!  If you haven’t heard of the National Worship Leader Conferences, you need to head over right now to their website to find out all about it.

NWLC East takes place on October 5-7, in Lancaster, PA.  There will be lots of great speakers and also lots of great attendees to get to know and learn from.

In order to enter the draw for a free registration, worth $305, you need to give something away first – some advice!!  I want you to use the comments are below to pass on one piece of worship leader related advice that you may have learned the hard way, but could save someone else a lot of trouble.  Let’s hear it!

I’ll let this run for just over one week and select a winner from those entered by July 10 midnight EST.

If you fail to win this ticket, you can purchase tickets online at the National Worship Leader Conference web site.  Use the blogger code ‘BLOGGERALASTAIR’ when registering.  The early bird ticket price has been extended to July 30, 2010.

Leaving sin unconfessed is no way to stand in front of a congregation. One (or many more) too many times, I’ve been sitting on the platform listening to the sermon or hearing a testimony or even reading Scriptue aloud when God pokes me hard about how that particular sin is hanging on in my own life. So I work hard to keep short lists with God, especially when I approach a service. Before every service where I’m a leader in any way, I kneel at the rail and pray for forgiveness for all that God brings into my mind as an offense against Him, and I pray for a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit. This discipline is something I started years ago–the refreshment and encouragement it gives me allows and propels me to be a much better channel for God’s message to our congregation! Think about it, pray about it, try it!!

“Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today” and think that you’re pleasing the Lord. He knows how much effort you put into prayer, preparation, and upkeep. If you’re flying by the seat of your pants, you know He knows, and don’t kid yourself, so will everyone else. Take your calling seriously, or take a break. Don’t give him your cup, half full.

    Stay close; stay broken.

Learn to take pleasure in God’s presence rather than in your music.

    Focus vertically.

    Be a “lead” worshiper.
